    About Leo’s Loo

How does the self-cleaning feature actually work?

Inside the Leo’s Loo drum is a semicircle shaped sifter. When the drum rotates, the sifter separates the dirty litter clumps from clean loose litter. As the drum continues rotating, the clumps are dumped into the waste drawer at the base of the machine, and the clean litter settles back to the bottom of the drum, ready for the next use.

Is Leo’s Loo big enough for large cats?

With an interior diameter of over 21”, large cats can easily fit inside and move around comfortably.

The entryway seems small. Are you sure my cat will fit through it?

The entryway is 8.5” in diameter, which is an easy squeeze even for large cats.

Is Leo’s Loo safe for small cats?

Cats should weigh a minimum of 2lb to use Leo’s Loo in automatic mode.

Will Leo’s Loo spill litter on the floor during the cleaning process?

The entryway is designed to prevent litter from escaping the drum during cleaning cycles while still providing ample space for cats of all sizes to enter.

We also added a custom silicon ring around the entryway that helps catch litter caught in your kitty’s fur and paws before it’s tracked through your home.

How often will I need to empty the waste drawer?

Sensors inside Leo’s Loo detect when the waste drawer needs to be changed. When it’s time to change the drawer, you’ll see a prompt on the screen in the shape of an exclamation mark and the exterior light will flash. For a single cat, the drawer usually needs to be changed about once a week.

Leo’s Loo claims to support up to three cats. Does that mean if I have three cats I can buy one Leo’s Loo and get rid of all my other litter boxes?

Yes, a single Leo’s Loo will support up to three cats without need for any additional litter boxes.

How much noise does Leo’s Loo make? If it operates at night, will it wake me or my family?

Leo’s Loo emits less than 40 dB of sound when operating, making it significantly quieter than competitive products. 40 dB roughly equivalent to the sound of leaves rustling, and should not wake most people from sleep.

So my dogs love "cat poop snacks". Will Leo’s Loo make it harder for them to enjoy these treats?

Leo’s Loo initiates a cleaning cycle two minutes after a cat leaves, which means most “cat poop snacks” will disappear before your canine buddy has a chance to get to them.

Does Leo’s Loo create as much dust as a regular litter box?

Leo’s Loo should not create dust. Its covered drum and custom entryway are designed to eliminate the spread of litter and litter dust.

I have a male cat that sprays high. Will Leo’s Loo leak?

Leo’s Loo is a complete one piece polymer sphere which will not leak.

Does this product require a water hook up?

No water is required to run Leo’s Loo.

Does Leo’s Loo have safety features to protect my cat from injury?

Leo’s Loo uses weight sensors, anti-pinch technology and radar to stop moving parts whenever a cat is detected inside or nearby.

What type of cat litter can I use in Leo’s Loo?

Only use clay type clumping cat litter.

    Behavior and Weight Tracking

    What does Leo’s Loo track?

Leo’s Loo tracks how many times your cat(s) steps inside the drum. This number, called the Loo Count, is displayed on the front screen. The Loo Count will show cumulative visits until it is reset.

Leo’s Loo also displays your cat’s weight. We call this Kitty Weight, and it is displayed on the screen underneath Loo Count. Leo’s Loo only registers and displays Kitty Weight while a cat is inside the drum. When no cats are inside, Kitty Weight will show a zero.

Where is Loo Count and Kitty Weight displayed?

Loo Count and Kitty Weight are displayed on the screen located on the front right side of your Leo’s Loo.

    Will I need an app?

No. Leo’s Loo does not have an app.

How does Leo’s Loo track my cat’s weight?

Leo’s Loo measures your cat’s weight each time she steps inside the drum using weight sensors inside the feet. This is why it’s important that your Leo’s Loo is placed on a hard, even surface.

Can I view my cat’s weight after she has exited?

No. Weight is only displayed while a cat is inside the drum.

If I have multiple cats, will Leo’s Loo be able to track how often each cat visits?

No, Leo’s Loo is unable to distinguish between different cats. It will only display the total number of times it detects a cat inside the drum.

Will Leo’s Loo tell me when my cat visits but does not go potty?

Leo’s Loo will track how often cats visit, but is unable to tell if they went potty or not. Often cats will go in and out just because they can.

    What’s Inside the Box?

Besides Leo’s Loo, what else should be in the box?

    Setup

How do I set up my Leo’s Loo?

Setting Leo’s Loo up should take less than 10 minutes to complete. For a detailed overview of the process, you can view this video:

Where does the carbon filter bag go?

Each Leo’s Loo comes with a Smarty Pear green carbon filter pouch. Place it in the forward compartment of the waste drawer.

How much litter should I put in?

About 1.2 gallons or approximately 10lbs. Fill until the silicon bladder inside the drum is covered. Do not fill beyond the point where the silicon bladder meets the back of the drum.

DO NOT USE THE FRONT OF THE DRUM AS A GAUGE AS THE DRUM IS TILTED AND THIS WILL CREATE AN OVERFILL SITUATION.

If you do happen to overfill, Leo’s Loo will dump the excess litter into the drawer after the first cycle. If you are seeing clean litter in the drawer, you have overfilled.

Where should I place my Leo’s Loo?

Leo’s Loo should be placed on a hard, solid surface. Avoid thick pile carpet or other uneven surfaces.

If you cannot avoid a carpeted surface, we recommend placing a stiff rubber or polycarbonate chair mat on top of the carpet.

Can Leo’s Loo this be used outdoors on a balcony?

Leo’s Loo should always be placed in a dry, indoor location to avoid exposing the internal electronics to moisture. It cannot be exposed to moisture as it is an electronics product.

The drum seems to have been dislodged during shipping. How do I re-seat it?

    Follow these steps:

    1. Remove the latch on the back of the cover
    2. Press the three tabs around the base of the cover, then gently remove the cover and expose the drum
    3. Lift the drum by placing a finger inside the rear spindle while holding front of the drum by the opening with the other hand
    4. Then, gently lift the drum off the base and replace it. You feel the drum slide snuggly into place. snug fit. Sometimes a small twist is required to make sure the gears are aligned.

What other carbon filters are compatible with this litter box?

In theory, any other carbon filter that fits inside the drawer should work, although we can’t guarantee the quality or effectiveness of these filters. Our carbon filter bag is made from bamboo, filled with all natural ingredients and helps reduce unpleasant odors.

Where can I purchase more waste drawer bags?

Smarty Pear drawstring waste drawer bags, which are designed to fit Leo’s Loo waste drawer, are available for purchase at www.smartypear.com.

Do I ever need to disassemble and clean my Leo’s Loo?

Yes, we recommend thoroughly cleaning your Leo’s Loo about once a month. It’s an easy process that should take only a few minutes of your time. You can view detailed instructions on the process here:

How long do the filters last?

Filters are good for 1-3 months depending on environment and use.

How do I change the litter?

The best way to change litter in your Leo’s Loo is to remove the drum, dump the old litter and then refill to the max line.

This video provides a detailed overview on how to remove the drum:

    Troubleshooting

I just set up my Leo’s Loo and something is wrong. I can tell from the noise it makes that it’s not operating properly. Should I send it back?

Occasionally, the cover and/or drum on the Leo’s Loo can become unseated during shipping. If this happens, your Leo’s Loo will not function properly. Fortunately, reseating the cover and drum is a simple process. Simply follow these steps:

    5. Replace the cover, making sure all tabs are aligned and locked firmly in place

My Leo’s Loo keeps indicating that the waste drawer is full, but it’s not. How do I fix it?

If your Leo’s Loo is incorrectly displaying the waste drawer full alert, please follow these steps:

    1. Check to make sure that the waste drawer bag is not blocking the internal sensor. This can happen if the waste drawer bag is bunched up. Simply slide the waste drawer out, pat down the waste drawer bag and slide the waste drawer back in.
    2. Clean the waste drawer sensors. To do this, slide the waste drawer out and look inside. You should see two sensor units located on the top left and right side of the drawer. Wipe gently with dry cloth.

I’m seeing dramatically different weight counts each time my cat steps in the machine. What do I do?

Leo’s Loo will have trouble accurately displaying weight if it is placed on carpet or other soft, uneven surfaces. If you cannot avoid a carpeted surface, we recommend placing a stiff rubber or polycarbonate chair mat on top of the carpet.

What if I am getting a significant amount of clean litter dumping into the drawer?

You have overfilled Leo’s Loo with too much litter.

You should only use about 1.2 gallons or approximately 10lbs of litter. Do not fill beyond the point where the silicon bladder meets the back of the drum.

DO NOT USE THE FRONT OF THE DRUM AS A GAUGE AS THE DRUM IS TILTED AND THIS WILL CREATE AN OVERFILL SITUATION.

My Leo’s Loo keeps displaying weight in kilograms (kg) instead of pounds (lb). How do I switch it?

You can switch between kilograms and pounds by long pressing the reset button. See an example here:

My cat just went potty and left Leo’s Loo. Nothing happened. Is it broken?

Don’t worry. Your Leo’s Loo will not initiate a cleaning cycle until it detects that your cat is no longer inside or nearby.

Please make sure your Leo’s Loo is in Automatic mode. You should see an “A” on the screen. If you see an “M” Leo’s Loo is in Manual Mode. To switch, long press the Mode button until you see the “M” on the screen change to “A”.

When in Manual mode, Leo’s Loo will only cycle when you short press the Mode button. Manual mode is ideal for underweight kitties or cats that are still acclimating to Leo’s Loo.
